A Welcoming ClassroomSt. Augustine Cathedral School offers a fully licensed preschool rooted in a warm, nurturing, and developmentally rich environment. A central part of our curriculum is the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a program inspired by Montessori principles. This child-centered approach helps children build a meaningful relationship with God through scripture, Liturgy, and hands-on experiences.
Our preschool classroom emphasizes the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth of every child. We are proud to implement several research-based programs that support early learning:- Zoo-Phonics — A comprehensive, multi-sensory approach to early literacy that builds phonemic awareness, sound-symbol connections, and foundational pre-reading skills.
- Learning Without Tears — A tactile, visual, and auditory program designed to strengthen fine-motor development and proper letter formation.
- Kindermusik ABC Music & Me — An award-winning, research-supported music and movement curriculum that promotes pre-literacy, language development, and motor skills through joyful, play-based learning.
Throughout the week, students engage in a child-centered classroom filled with projects that spark curiosity and critical thinking across language, literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and the arts. Outdoor physical and play-based activities and opportunities are also provided daily.
Our earliest learners are encouraged to explore, create, and discover — building confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning – all of which best prepares them for an exciting and successful next step to the St. Augustine Cathedral School kindergarten program.

A Family of SchoolsOur preschool is an essential component of our school family, which serves students from preschool through eighth grade at St. Augustine Cathedral School.
St. Augustine is a member school along with St. Monica Catholic School, Light of Christ Academy, and Hackett Catholic Prep, known as the Catholic Schools of Greater Kalamazoo (CSGK).

CreativityKindermusik ABC Music & Me is a thematic approach to music and movement. The program incorporates literature, finger plays, rhythm, and instruments in an organized classroom environment.
The program strengthens cognitive connections, receptive and expressive language skills, and even social skills such as turn-taking and self-regulation. ABC Music & Me’s innovative approach offers benefits to all our preschool students.

Faith
The preschool incorporates the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program as a central component of our curriculum. This is a religious program that focuses on the faith development of each individual child and his/her relationship to Christ.
It is a wonderful complement to the preschool curriculum that emphasizes the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of each student.
Preschoolers also spend time in our Atrium, having time for quiet reflection and learning about God and their faith.

Tuition rates vary depending on the following factors:
- Three or four-year-old program
- Full or half days
- With or without enrichment program

Apply for Admission
As a member of the Catholic Schools of Greater Kalamazoo (CSGK), all St. Augustine students, including preschoolers, follow the enrollment procedures and timing of CSGK.
Enrollment is typically open from January through February.
